Hiking Mount Moriah, New Hampshire {4000 Footers}

Hiking Mount Moriah, New Hampshire

Monica and I have hiked 16 of the 48 White Mountains that are over 4000 feet. We are gradually tackling mountains and checking them off our list. Since we live in Quebec and have to drive 2 hours each way to get there, it is slow going but we are making progress, especially when we did 4 mountains in one day this summer. On Saturday October 1st 2016, Monica, her daughter Ashley and I headed to New Hampshire to hike Mount Moriah. I picked them up at 7:30am. We got to the trail head just before 10am. There is not… » Continue Reading

TEAM LYNDA

On Sunday, October 2nd 2016, I participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure 2016 in Sherbrooke QC to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This is my fourth year creating a team to raise money and run in this event.     I have created TEAM LYNDA to honour and support one of my best friends and Godmother of my children. Lynda got breast cancer in 2008, the cancer came back but in her lung in 2014 and then again in her brain in 2016. Each time she has been struck by this terrible disease she has… » Continue Reading

Fall Tissue Paper Tree Craft for Kids

Fall Tissue Paper Tree Craft

My favourite season has rolled around again. I love everything about fall. The trees are just beginning to change colour here in Quebec and it has inspired a fun craft for my son. My 4 year old son just broke his arm on the weekend jumping on the trampoline with friends so I wanted to come up with an activity he could do using only his left hand. It took a bit of trial and error but he was able to create a beautiful fall tissue paper craft to hang in the entrance to our house. It was a beautiful… » Continue Reading

Vizsla Puppy Training Update

Such a pretty sit!

I have been deep in puppy training mode lately. I brought home my Vizsla puppy a week and a half ago and it has been all puppy all the time. Have you ever raised a puppy? It’s a lot of work. Fun but work, nonetheless. This time around it has actually been easier than two years ago when my Golden Retriever, Gunner was a puppy. He was a nipping and mouthing monster for the first couple of months. My Vizsla pup, Ripley, has been much easier so far. She is 10 weeks old right now. I am sure she will… » Continue Reading

Ripley hit it off with my 4 and almost 6 year old boys immediately. She had met many different people while at the breeder’s so is already on her way to being well socialised. My boys are in love with her. My almost 2 year old Golden Retriever,Gunner, is so excited to have a playmate. He just wants to play constantly with her. I keep a close eye on them because he likes… » Continue Reading

Hiking Sentiers de Bromont, Quebec

Hiking Sentiers de Bromont, Quebec

If you have been a reader of Country Fit Family for awhile you know that I love hiking and exploring new trails. I have been on a mission for the last couple of years to try out all the hiking trails in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Well, all the ones that are dog friendly at least. Can’t leave my Gunner home when I hike! I write detailed recaps of the hikes that I do with my young sons and our dog to enable other families an opportunity to explore with their children as well. Nothing makes me happier than seeing… » Continue Reading

We are Getting a Vizsla Puppy!

We are getting a Vizsla puppy!

My husband, my two sons, Gunner the Golden Retriever and I are very excited to announce that we are getting a new puppy! An 8 week old Hungarian Vizsla puppy. We are getting a female Vizsla puppy from Akar Vizsla a registered breeder of conformation show dogs in Quebec City. The Hungarian Vizsla: “The AKC Standard calls the Vizsla “lively, gentle-mannered, demonstrably affectionate, and sensitive.” The good-natured Vizsla has also been called a “Velcro” dog because he is so tactile — he likes to attach himself to people, preferably in their laps. Athletic, agile, and light on his feet, the… » Continue Reading

River Fun with the Boys

River Fun with the Boys!

There is a heat wave going on right now where we live. Super sunny, hot and humid. The only way to stay cool is to stay inside or find some water to play in. I am not one to stay inside all day so we hit the water. Yesterday, the boys spent 5 hours in my friend’s pool. They had fun, had exercise and kept out of the heat. I wanted to go on a different adventure today so we headed to a river very close to our home with our Golden Retriever, Gunner.       The river is… » Continue Reading
